The average household income in Kenya is less than $100 monthly. School is not free in Kenya, and gets progressively more expensive as you move from primary school to secondary school. Unfortunately, many families can not afford to provide food for their family and a full 12 year education for their children. Without an education, the cycle of poverty continues generation after generation.
Transcend Talent Academy was founded by Wesley & Tarah Korir to provide the most talented youth of Kenya an opportunity for a full high school education and elite run coaching. The best students from Transcend go on to earn an income from national running competitions, trade schools, university, and for the most talented- USA collegiate scholarships.
A portion of sales from every bag of Bingwa Coffee helps support school fees and operational costs at the Transcend Talent Academy. The school is home to 120 students who, without the support of Transcend, would not have the opportunity to finish high school. Many of the students who attend Transcend would not have daily meals if they were not offered room and board. Transcend is not just providing an education but is caring for the well-being of these students. Transcend is currently funded by the generous donations of a small number of sponsors. We look forward to the sales of Bingwa Coffee growing to help generate additional, sustainable income for the school.
Bingwa Coffee beans are sourced from small, independent, coffee farmers in rural Kenya. These families rely on the sale of their beans to provide the most essential, daily needs for their survival. Bingwa allows these farmers to consolidate their beans into a co-op, thus ensuring sales harvest after harvest.
